Welcome to 'Prospects & Concepts'
The newest iteration of Logan Adams' work on Substack, Prospects and Concepts brings with it a new level of professionalism and identity.
Hello, new and old readers to Prospects & Concepts, the newest iteration of my (Logan Adams) work here on Substack, and your premier stop for conversation regarding the NBA Draft and its countless prospects. For old readers of Logan’s Basketball Newsletter, this rebrand will consist of all the things you love about my writing and analysis while bringing a new layer of identity to the website.
This article won’t have any of that analysis, rather, it’s a simple introduction to what is changing, what is staying and why this is happening in the first place. So, without further ado, let me explain.
Who am I?
For those of you who are new to my work or just haven’t had the chance to get to know me on a personal level, I’m Logan Adams, a 20-year-old college student at Ohio University and the sports editor at The Post, the sixth-most popular college newspaper in the United States as of 2022.
I’ve been blogging for around eight years of that point, and for the last six of those years, I’ve kept an NBA Draft big board. I’ve been using what is now Prospects & Concepts to write down my thoughts for well over a year now, and hope to only continue pushing out content at a greater rate.
In the future, I wish to turn this into a profession. In the short term, this is essentially my portfolio to make that happen, and a way for me to hone the skills I hope to use in my career moving forward. That is why I encourage disagreement, constructive criticism and other viewpoints to be shared on my work, as it will only better me as a writer and as an analyst.
What is Prospects & Concepts?
Prospects & Concepts in essence is what Logan’s Basketball Newsletter has always been, just more recognizable, more professional and holding a more unique identity.
Go through any of the articles posted on this website. What do they entail? Deep analysis of NBA draft prospects, often pertaining to wider concepts in basketball.
Take my Taylor Hendricks analysis from the 2023 draft cycle where I talked about Hendricks potentially returning top-ten value because of the evolution of the “free safety four” archetype. Or, even more recently, take my article about the third-overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Reed Sheppard and my hold ups with both him and the practice of stat scouting.
The common thread between these pieces is the deep analysis of film, statistics and greater basketball understanding as I attempt to learn, myself, and hopefully impart a view that you haven’t thought of yet. That is what I want Prospects & Concepts to be.
Why is this change happening?
One thing I’ve been striving to be viewed as in the space is a professional. Now, as a 20-year-old college kid who’s biggest achievement is becoming sports editor for his school paper, I am not exactly a professional in the draft space yet. However, I’m a big believer in the sentiment that you have to dress for the job you want, and this is my attempt at doing that for my foremost form of content.
This is not just a cosmetic shift, however. As we’ve seen with recent articles on this site, it’s not all free anymore. The only thing that will always be paywalled are my big boards, which will be released on the first of every month (with the exception of this month), and will still have the entire top 25 prospects available to view for free.
Why does content need to be paywalled?
The reason why paywalled content will be introduced is partially because of the attempt at professionalism I’m trying to achieve. The biggest motivator for me, currently, to pursue putting out individual content, is because it feels like it is valued. And, the best way to know that something is valued is financially.
A yearly subscription to Prospects & Concepts costs jut $5/month (less than your average Starbucks order), or $3/month using this discount to get 40% off for the first year.
If you don’t have the means to show your support financially, however, there are more than enough ways to show support. The easiest is just to follow me on X (formerly Twitter) at @LoganA_NBA where I’m incredibly active, or liking, commenting on or restacking my articles here on Substack. Ultimately, a vast majority of the content on here will remain free.
Where will this go next?
More forms of content!
Up until now, I’ve stuck to X and Substack as my only ways of producing content. However, as we get deeper into the draft cycle, I want to start putting out short-form content on TikTok and YouTube shorts, as well as on X.
Down the line, as well, if finances allow me to collect the equipment required, I would love to have a fully running Prospects & Concepts YouTube channel with longer-form content, and a Prospects & Concepts podcast with weekly or monthly guests.
If I’m to continue listing off aspirations for both the short and long term of Prospects & Concepts I’d love to bring on talented writers and artists to express their work as a part of this brand, and even potentially create merchandise for you all to purchase if the support is great enough.
All these are just aspirations at this point, aside from the inevitability of short-form content, but with your support it can all come to fruition.
I am genuinely so excited for this new era, and I hope you all are too. If you have any additional questions related to the rebrand, please comment or message me on Substack.
Good stuff. You’re already a professional.
Like the rebrand — you’re putting out great stuff Logan, can’t wait to see what’s next!
